"How can God be absolutely independent of us and still have a relationship with us? Because all beings are independent of each other, even when they are in a relationship."

In C.S. Lewis' 'The Abolition of Man' comes to mind on this subject. One of the theme's revolves around whether man ought view him/herself outside of the created order, prescribing value as they see fit, or if they ought to view him/herself inside of the created order which has innate value as prescribed by the creator. It seems that God can easily be independent of us and still have a relationship with us.

On another note, I visited with a friend this past weekend who JUST had their baby girl! God is often referred to as Abba, Shepherd, King, these are all one way relationships. Are we babies trying to have a peer to peer relationship with our Father?

You mentioned in the introduction about, "a two-way, give-and-take relationship with God, they blur God’s identity with ours. I am arguing that their concept of relationships does not exist at all." I tend to agree. We have a tendency to overly-elevate ourselves don't we?

As someone who has, on many occasions through my life, been dissatisfied with my 'relationship with God' and wanting more, what kind of relationship can we hope to have with our creator? I may want a certain kind of relationship with God, with my seminary professors, with my pastor, with my parents, but what can we reasonably expect?
